The present

1 At the moment: Now, right now.

• She is watching TV at the moment.

2 Today: This day.

• I have English class today.

The past

3 Last: The one before now (day, week, month, etc.).

• I went to the beach last Monday.

4 Ago: In the past, before now.

• I saw him two days ago.

5 In (year, decade, century): To talk about a time in the past.

• My dad was born in 1970.

6 In the past: Not now, a long time ago.

• People didn’t have phones in the past.

7 Yesterday: The day before today.

• I studied English yesterday.

8 The day before yesterday: Two days ago.

• I saw Anna the day before yesterday.

9 Recently: Not long ago; in the near past.

• I recently watched a new film.

The future

10 Next: The one after now (day, week, month, etc.).

• We have a test next Monday.

11 In a moment: Very soon, in a short time.

• She will call you in a moment.

12 In the future: After now, later.

• We will live on Mars in the future.

13 Tomorrow: The day after today.

• I want to visit my grandma tomorrow.

14 The day after tomorrow: Two days from now.

• We have a trip the day after tomorrow.

15 Soon: In a short time.

• Lunch will be ready soon.

Days and parts of the day

16 On + day (+ part of a day): Use on before a day of the week or a specific time on that day, like Monday morning or Tuesday evening, to say when something happens.

• We play football on Saturday morning.

17 In the morning: The early part of the day, before 12 pm.

• I get up at 7 in the morning.

18 In the afternoon: The part of the day from about 12 pm to 6 pm.

• I have tea in the afternoon.

19 In the evening: The time after the afternoon.

• We have dinner in the evening.

20 At night: The late part of the day, when it’s dark.

• I go to bed at night.
